Frequently asked questions about borehole geophysical surveys

Which investigations are included in a well logging programme?
The suite is selected for the objective and well conditions. It can include gamma-ray, spontaneous potential, resistivity, caliper and other borehole measurements needed to correlate the geological section or assess well condition.
What information is needed before work begins?
Provide the well passport and construction, depth, casing and tubing data, drilling and geological logs, known target intervals and the task for the survey.
What determines the logging suite and investigation depth?
They depend on the objective, well construction and condition, casing, borehole diameter, fluid properties, accessible depth and safety constraints.
Can well logging be carried out in a cased well?
Some methods can be used in cased wells, although the available suite is limited by casing and construction. We assess the well specifications before selecting the methods.
What will the client receive?
Raw and processed logs, depth correlation, interpretation linked to the geological section and a technical report in the agreed format.
How is measurement quality controlled?
We check instrument calibration and zero, depth matching, repeat measurements where required, and field records. Data quality control continues during processing and interpretation.
Can well logging be combined with other investigations?
Yes. Results are most useful when correlated with geology, core, drilling, laboratory analyses and, where appropriate, surface geophysics.
